Halfords: Gift Card Proposition & Design
An MOT isn’t exactly top of most people’s wish lists. So we helped Halfords turn its gift cards from something functional into something worth celebrating.
Halfords asked us to refresh its gift card range. But the bigger opportunity wasn’t simply to change how the cards looked. It was to change what they meant. A Halfords gift card could easily feel practical. Useful, yes. Inspiring? Not always.
So we flipped the thinking from transaction to occasion. Because Halfords is part of all kinds of important moments - a child’s first bike, passing a driving test, fitting a first car seat, getting ready for a new adventure. For the moments that matter turned those experiences into a much broader gifting proposition.
Working with illustrator Vincent Tourigny, we created a witty, characterful range spanning physical and digital gift cards, each celebrating a different occasion.
That proposition now has a role beyond everyday gifting too. Halfords for Business uses gift cards across employee rewards, customer loyalty, acquisition and benefits programmes, with options ranging from bulk physical cards to instant digital delivery.
And with industry research showing gift-card recipients spend an average 66.4% beyond the value of the card, making Halfords feel more giftable has real commercial relevance.
Not just something to spend. Something people actually want to give.
